NRS Initiative

2021

Professor Subhas Mukherjee is currently regarded as the pioneer of ‘In Vitro Fertilisation’ in India. During 1967 to 1976, he worked at Physiology Department of N R S Medical College. During lifetime, Professor Mukherjee was humiliated and malhandled by his contemporary Medical fraternity and Government machinary, leading to his untimely death. Ex Students Association of N R S Medical School and College took the initiative to pay homage to this great man by installng a half bust of Professor Subhas Mukherjee in the College premises and naming the Boys' Hostel after him. Incidentally, Professor Mukherjee used to act as Hostel Superintendent and resided in the Superintendent's quarters inside the hostel. The statue was unveiled by 'Durga' alias Ms Kanupriya Agarwal (first Test Tube Baby of our country) and her father on 1st October 2021. The occasion was graced by Director of Medical Education and Director of Health services, by their august presence.

5th 'Sir Nil Ratan Sircar Memorial Oration' was organised this year on 1st October. Professor Arun Kumarendu Singh, Head of the Department of Neonatology at Jodhpur AIIMS and an Alumnus of this College was the orator.

N R S Medical College achieved one more milestone on 13th July, 2021 - on this day the first Renal Transplant Surgery was performed at N R S Medical College. In our state, this is only the second institution in Government set up to achieve this feat.
