Nil Ratan Sircar Medical College & Hospital (NRSMC&H)

WELCOME TO ENDOCRINOLOGY DEPARTMENT

The department of Endocrinology at Nil Ratan Sircar Medical College was set up w.e.f. 1st March, 2006 and was formalised by a post-facto order from Swasthya Bhawan dated 30th September, 2019. Currently the department is housed at Subhas Mukherjee Building which accommodates the IPD, OPD and teaching departments under a single roof. The department building has been named after Dr Subhas Mukherjee to honour and respect his pioneering works in the field of Reproductive Endocrinology which he had carried out in the department of Physiology of this very institution.

Currently the department is conducting two courses viz, DM Endocrinology with annual intake of three students per academic year under WBUHS and Diploma in Diabetes Care Technology (DDCT) under State Medical Faculty of West Bengal (SMFWB).

The department runs OPD four days a week and has a twenty bedded IPD with more than 80% bed occupancy throughout the year. The department conducts at least four days of academic sessions per week as a part of post doctoral training programme.

Apart from, routine clinical work and academic sessions catering to the needs of the patients and the students, the Department is very active in organising CMEs and conferences, undertaking clinical trials and other research activities. The faculties and the residents are quite regular in bringing out publications in peer-reviewed journals.

Since inception of DM curriculum, students from all over India have undergone DM training successfully from this department and all of them are well placed in their professional and/or academic careers. The following table shows the current placement of erstwhile DM trainees of the Department as on July,2024.
