About the Department
  • It is a fully functional 61 ( 29 Male, 32 Female)  bedded department catering to thousands of patients in the OPD and emergency per week.
  • There are 3 units in the department for smooth patient care, each comprising of Faculties, Senior and Junior Residents – Unit-1 (OPD on Monday/ Friday); Unit-2 (OPD on Tuesday/ Saturday); Unit-3 (OPD on Wednesday/ Thursday).
  • It has a newly renovated Operation Theatre Complex with a separate unit for starting Cochlear Implantation Surgeries in the near future.
  • It has a well-equipped Temporal Bone and Cadaver Dissection Laboratory for training and research activities of budding ENT Surgeons and Junior Faculties in Otology and Skull Base. Regular temporal bone dissection workshops and practice sessions are a part of the daily Curriculum of the senior and junior residents.
  • We have regular academic sessions, seminars and CMEs being held in the department.
  • The 1st Temporal Bone Dissection Competition and Workshop was held on the 15th of January, 2024.
  • The department is proud to have a very friendly and warm atmosphere among the Residents and the Faculties, which is conducive to each one’s progress and development.
  •  The entire ward, OPD and OT staff are extremely well-trained and helpful enabling good patient care.

​The Cochlear Implantation Programme was initiated on the 10th December, 2024 in the department. Two Cochlear implant surgeries already have been performed successfully.

 Services:
 
• ENT Out Patient Department (OPD) – Monday to Saturday (9AM to 2PM)
• ENT In Patient Department (IPD) – 61-bedded Male and Female wards
• ENT Emergency OT Services – Tracheostomy, Nasal/ ear foreign body removal, Esophagoscopy (for foreign bodies in Esophagus),     Bronchosopy (for foreign bodies in Airway), Epistaxis management, Nasal bone fracture reduction etc.
• ENT Endoscopy – Fibre-optic laryngoscopy (FOL), Diagnostic Nasal Endoscopy (DNE), Otoendoscopy.
• Audio-Vestibular Clinic – Hearing and Balance assessments like PAE, BERA, Pure Tone Audiometry, Tympanometry, Special Tests of Hearing, Bi-thermal Caloric Tests, Speech and Language Therapy, Voice Therapy etc.
• Minor OT Procedures – Examination under Microscope (EUM), Aural syringing, Ear suctioning, Biopsy, Ear lobe repair, Intra-tympanic steroid injections, Mucocele/ cyst excision etc.
• Major Operative Procedures – All kinds of ENT and Head-Neck elective surgeries like adeno-tonsillectomy, Microlaryngeal Surgery (MLS), Direct laryngoscopic examination and biosy,Tympanoplasty, Mastoidectomy, Stapedectomy, Rhinoplasty, Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery (FESS), Endoscopic Endonasal Dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR), CSF Leak Repair, Thyroidectomy, Parotidectomy, Maxillectomy, Total Laryngectomy and various other Head-Neck Surgeries.
• Newer/ Advanced Operative Procedures – Coblation Assisted Adeno-Tonsillectomy, Endoscopic Ear Surgery, Cochlear Implant Surgery.
• Cochlear Implantation Programme – This is an upcoming programme at the ENT Department at NRSMCH where profound deaf children and adults are diagnosed, prepared, operated and rehabilitated to hear. NRSMCH is awaiting its empanelment under the ADIP scheme for cochlear implantation under the Government of India.
• Temporal Bone and Cadaver Dissection Laboratory – For audio-visual training and research activities of budding ENT Surgeons and Junior Faculties in Otology, Neuro-otology, Sinus Surgery, Anterior and Lateral Skull Base Surgeries.

. Newly installed STROBOSCOPE UNIT (Flexible Fibre-optic Laryngoscope with Narrow Band Imaging)- For better diagnosis and treatment of Laryngeal Pathologies.

. Installation of new C-ARM machine for use in intra operative imaging during Cochlear implantation surgery and others.
