Started in 2010 as a separate department from pre-existing Department of Neurology.

1st Head of the Department: Prof. (Dr.) Parimal Tripathy

M.Ch Neurosurgery course was introduced in 2011 under Weat Bengal University of Health Sciences (as a second such department in West Bengal following IPGMER and Bangur Institute of Neurology, kolkata for Neurosurgical Training.)

At present Department is recognized by MCI for M.Ch (Neurosurgery) training, 2 students/ year.
